If I Had $5000...

Does anyone remember the show What Not to Wear? With Clinton Kelly and Stacy London. I was obsessed with it growing up! Recently I was playing 20 questions with someone and they asked me what stores I would go to if I had $1 000 (of course I answered Old Navy, Gap, J. Crew, Anthropologie and J. Crew). This inspired me to do this post. I created a winter version of this post, but decided to do a spring version!
P.S. I wrote this post on March 28th/29th/30th and am going off the prices on those dates!

Gap

Total Spent at Gap: $661.00
Total Remaining: $4 339.00

J. Crew Factory

Total Spent at J. Crew Factory: $519.00
Total Remaining: $3 820.00

Loft (did the prices in Canadian dollars!)

Total Spent at Loft: $801.93
Total Remaining: $3 018.07

DSW

Total Spent at DSW: $779.87
Total Remaining: $2 238.20

Nordstrom

I’m adding Nordstrom because I feel like at the end of every What Not to Wear episode, they went to a department store. It was usually Macy’s, but I prefer Nordstrom’s clothes! P.S. prices in CAD.
BP. Double Breasted Trench Coat (on sale for an amazing price!)
Total at Nordstrom: $1 651.67
Total Remaining: $586.53

Sephora

I feel like when you get a new wardrobe, you create a new face & hair routine, too! Therefore I thought I would share what I would purchase to go with my new makeup look. Of course, different products for different needs (ie. CC cream vs. foundation for different days!)
Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette (this is always be my go-to palette)
Total at Sephora: $559.00
Total Remaining: $27.53

Dang, I cut that close!
Let me know in the comments what your favourites are from the list and where you would go if you had $5 000 to buy a new wardrobe!

P.S. with $4 972.47, I would have been able to get:
23 shirts
7 pairs of pants/leggings
4 pairs of jeans
7 dresses
4 pieces of outerwear
16 pairs of shoes
2 purses
1 watch
… and tons of makeup!

I think I would do pretty good if I ever got to be on the show!

Try-On Thursday: Old Navy

I’m constantly trying to think of a theme for every Monday, every Thursday, etc. Right now, I have links and loves on Mondays and book reviews on Sundays. I’m thinking that try-on Thursdays would be a great addition, too. This week I thought I would start with Old Navy – there’s so many cute things there this season!

I didn’t purchase anything in hopes I could get some opinions from my readers. As I’ve previously mentioned, I have gained some weight so I need to make some purchases of things that fit.

P.S. I think this is the first time that I haven’t straightened my hair for a blog post. So welcome to the natural frizzy wavy mess I call my hair! I’ve been wearing it natural lately, just to let my hair get healthy and strong again.

I have had my eye on these pants for a while and I honestly think I really like them on! As an apple body shape, I struggle finding pants that fit in the waist but aren’t super baggy legs. These were a little snug in the waist but not completely uncomfortable. I think if I went up a size, they would be too baggy in the legs.

Relaxed Linen-Blend Gingham Shirt (almost sold out online, but lots in store!!) // Mid-Rise Ankle Pants (in dragonfruit punch)
I tried this shirt on in an XL because button downs don’t usually fit me well. However, this is almost too big. I do think it would look super cute with navy ankle pants and a denim jacket this spring, though! I am however, absolutely in love with the pants. I’m not usually a bright coloured pants person but these ones have my heart. They’re so perfect for spring and summer!

I love everything about this outfit! I’ve been looking at this shirt for ages. It’s super comfortable and super cute. I don’t think I have much more to say about this outfit!

I’ve loved this dress for a while. I posted it on Instagram a while ago and had to share it on the blog. It’s the dress version of the shirt above! It also comes in the navy floral but I’m loving the burgundy, too.

I’m kind of iffy on this dress. I don’t love it but I also don’t hate it. I think if I wore a jean jacket over top with a cute pair of sneakers & aviators, this would be the perfect spring dress.

The Best Gluten Free Food (available on Amazon!)

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten /

I posted a picture of the KIND bars on Instagram raving about their deliciousness. I got a few DMs asking for gluten free food recommendations. Here I am, writing a post on some great gluten free finds on Amazon.

KIND Healthy Grains Granola Bars – I posted these on Instagram yesterday. They’re heaven in a mouthful. As someone who doesn’t love overly crunchy granola bars, these are absolutely perfect. Plus they’re peanut butter and dark chocolate AND super affordable compared to some gluten free foods.

KIND Health Grains Clusters – One of my favourite breakfast or midday snack options! These taste delicious with coconut milk, almond milk or on their own! Sometimes I slice up a banana on top, too.

RXBAR Whole Food Protein Bar – If I’m being completely honest, I haven’t actually tried the RXBARs yet. However, I’ve heard so many fantastic things about them that I had to share.

Bounce Natural Energy Balls – I would like to blame my best friend, Sam, for my addiction to bounce balls. I love the coconut macadamia ones for spring and summer, they have a nice light taste to them. In the fall, the apple cinnamon ones are incredible – especially microwaved for 30 seconds; they taste like warm apple pie!

Blue Diamond Nut Thins – One of the first foods I tried when I was first diagnosed with Celiac disease. I still love them. Growing up, one of my favourite snacks was crackers with garden vegetable cream cheese on top. These are the perfect cracker for that!

Annie’s Homegrown Gluten Free Rice Pasta Macaroni & Cheese – Honestly sometimes I still think I’m eating Kraft Dinner with this! It’s such a great snack plus it comes in microwavable bowls like KD does!

Kellogg’s Special K Nourish Dark Chocolate Chunks & Almond Bars – Funny story about these. I was at a music festival last summer and in true Felicity nature, I didn’t pack enough snacks. My friend whose boyfriend is gluten free started rummaging through her purse to find a snack for me. She found one of these bars and I literally debated her over whether or not they were actually gluten free. Surprise, it says they’re gluten free on the label AND they’re good. Kudos to you, Special K for making gluten free bars.

Kinnikinnick Graham Style Animal Crackers – Am I the only one who has a snack they loved as a child and now eat as an adult? Yeah, they’re animal crackers for me. I used to low key steal my niece’s when she was younger because they’re just so good! Therefore, I was super pumped to find these crackers. I’d only give them a 3.5/5 for similarities to actual animal crackers but they’re a great snack.

Udi’s Salted Caramel Cashew Soft Baked Cookies – A few years ago, I made the mistake of purchasing a case of these cookies. They’re so addictive. I quite honestly think I ate a box of them a day. They remind me of a food version of Starbucks’ salted caramel mocha.

Quaker Crispy Minis Veggie Balsamic & Bruschetta Chips – I found these at my local grocery store and am addicted. I could eat them instead of a bag of chips in the evening. So much deliciousness in one bag! I don’t even know what to say about them, haha.

Kettle Chips Backyard BBQ Chips – I feel like lots of people are really confused as to why I included potato chips since they’re made from potatoes AKA naturally gluten free. Unfortunately though, the majority of BBQ chips aren’t gluten free. As someone who has a slight obsession with BBQ chips, these are the best gluten-free ones plus kettle chips are always delicious.

Book Review: In This Moment

I always struggle with finding good topics to write. I am an avid book reader though so I decided that I would start writing book reviews every Sunday. Book reviews are some of my favourite things to read because you get so much information from bloggers.

Madewell Must Haves

Between working lots and having some serious writer’s block, I haven’t been able to attend to the blog as much as I would have liked to the past week. I’m sitting here trying to decide on some series I could start to make myself blog more, but again, my mind is blanking.

I decided to quickly throw together this Madewell Must Have posts because I have been obsessing over their must haves! Maybe tomorrow I’ll do another store’s must haves for spring 2018! Let me know in the comments what you think and some store suggestions.

Gorgeous Spring Picks for Under $100!

If I’m being 100% honest, I’m not super big on accessories. I love scarves and watches, but that’s about it. My goal for spring and summer 2018 is to love accessories a bit more. Today I thought I would share some accessories that I do really like, for $100 and under too!

Links + Loves

Happy Monday! I was actually supposed to be off today but for some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to pick up an extra shift on my day off. It’s only six hours though and it’s 2-8 pm so it’s not that bad.

I love the idea of “coffee conversations” for links and loves – aka a post you sit down to read with your morning coffee. Hence why I quite often use a picture of coffee on them.

Yesterday was Mater’s 6th “gotcha day” aka the day that we picked him up. To celebrate, I thought I would share a quick collage I made of him over the years:
He’s growing up so fast but is still such a puppy at heart, his energy is out of control. He just loves his “Lolly and Moosie” more than anything; they play for hours all day, every day.

Now onto the usual links and loves…

There’s actually so much that I’m loving this week from natural laundry soap to a DIY clutch that’s perfect for spring, so buckle up because we’re in for a long post.

I cannot believe how beautiful these DIY amethyst bath bombs are! I almost wouldn’t want to use them.

The prettiest DIY floral fold over clutch for spring.

How delicious this almond flour lemon cake sound? It’s gluten free and paleo-friendly!

I’m absolutely smitten over this navy and pink guest room.

I love this one piece swimsuit from Aerie, but it’s super affordable!

I have a slight obsession with New Balance and J. Crew collaboration – these navy leggings are absolute perfection for the gym and for an athleisure outfit!

My dream vacuum is on sale for $150 off!

The First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser will always be my favourite face wash. Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple is always my second choice/backup, though.

I used to do the most dramatic eye roll at the idea of a mule however, I’m loving The Harper Mule from Madewell.

Pinterest Picks: Home Decor

About a week ago, I shared my Pinterest Picks: Spring 2018 post and I loved doing it. I loved Pinterest for so long then kind of stopped using it for a bit. I definitely need to get back into pinning things and being active because I love it.

I’m actually writing this post in advanced. I called in sick to work so I thought I would sit around and write posts. I had an emotionally draining confrontation with a resident yesterday so I decided to stay home and focus on my mental health today before going back to work. I started feeling myself burning out and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to give the residents 100%. I’m honestly kind of glad that I am aware enough to know when I am burning out. I’m probably going to go for a drive through the country with my favourite tunes turned up in a bit, it always helps me relax.

Disclaimer:
None of these pictures are my own. They were all found on Pinterest. I did, however, edit them into collages for sharing purposes. Please look the photos up on Pinterest for their original owners.

Three Delicious Cauliflower Recipes

I have such a strange addiction to cauliflower lately – don’t ask me why! I have like five cauliflower heads in my fridge and they all have a purpose.

I have been eating ketogenic lately (with bananas as a treat because y’know… bananas are delicious). I can’t even explain how much better I have been feeling mentally and physically eating both ketogenic and meat-free. It is hard though, I will admit to find recipes that are compliant to both and there’s many nights I find myself eating pre-made cauliflower mash, steamed mixed vegetables and asparagus for supper. Mind you, it’s all delicious still.

Today I decided to share my three favourite ketogenic cauliflower recipes – cauliflower crust pizza, spicy cauliflower bites and cauliflower and cheese (mac and cheese but with cauliflower instead). Personally I find myself eating the cauliflower pizza and cauliflower and cheese more, however, the spicy cauliflower bites are delicious, too. I quite often sit down on a Thursday night with cauliflower bites and keto mozza sticks for How to Get Away With Murder.

Cauliflower crust pizza

Unfortunately, the pizza above had seen better days after I forgot to take it out of the oven after I turned the oven off, lol. However it’s so simple and so easy. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Take a head of cauliflower, rice it in a food processor then throw it in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 4-5 minute. I always line the bowl with 3 layers of paper towel underneath.

While it’s in the microwave, put one egg, 1 tsp. of garlic, 1 tsp. of basil and 1/4 to 1/2  cup of shredded mozzarella cheese in a bowl. I always use closer to a half cup, but that’s because I’m a cheese addict. Just leave it until you add the cauliflower.

When the cauliflower is finished, take a cloth or paper towel (which is why I put the paper towel there beforehand) to squeeze out the excess water. Then mix it in with the stuff you’ve already put together and mix until it has a dough-y texture.

Scoop it out onto a piece of parchment paper – I put the parchment paper on a cookie sheet so it doesn’t tear in the oven. Then make it into a pizza crust shape with your hands. Put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes, until the crust in a golden brown colour.

Once it’s finished, add toppings of your choice (I usually put spinach, a bit of tomato, a bit of feta & mozzarella on it) then put it under the broiler until the cheese is melted! Let it sit for a few minutes to cool off then enjoy!

Microwave Free Option – if you prefer to not use a microwave, you can heat the cauliflower stove-top then rice it after it’s been cooked! It works just as well.

Spicy cauliflower bites

These are a take on cauliflower wings but much more spicy and delicious!

Preheat the oven to 425 and grease a casserole dish for starters! I mix about 1/4 cup of hot sauce and egg together in one cup. Then I mix together almond flour and garlic in another. I cut up the cauliflower into pieces (usually each piece separately).

Then I dip the cauliflower in the egg mix then the flour. After each piece, I put it into the casserole dish until all of the cauliflower pieces are in the dish.

I put it in the oven for about 15 minutes. I pull it out and pour hot\ sauce on cauliflower. I put it back into the oven for another 5-8 minutes and pull it out when it looks crispy.

“Cauliflower” Mac and Cheese

This is hands down the #1 recipe in my kitchen. I make it 2-3 times per week and never get sick of it. I always start with preheating my oven to 425 and greasing a casserole dish (same as the bites!).

Once the oven is preheating, I steam the cauliflower. It honestly depends on my mood that day whether I put it in the microwave or do it stovetop. Once cooked, I put into the casserole dish.

In a saucepan at medium-high heat, I mix together 1/4 cup of cream cheese, 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup of milk (you could also use heavy cream, it just upsets my stomach!) Once it’s melted, I pour it on top of the cauliflower. Then I sprinkle extra shredded cheese on top.

I put this in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Added taste tip – I always add a teaspoon of garlic to the cheese sauce and it gives it such a good extra kick! I then use hot sauce on top of the cauliflower & cheese when I’m eating it! So delicious.

March 2018 Wish List

Ah, March is here. That means spring is on its way! I am way too excited for spring. It means it’s finally time for cute dresses and sneakers; you can finally put away the huge sweaters and heavy coats. I find it hard as a Canadian sometimes to actually put the stuff away though, because I’ve seen snow in May before. However, it’s nice to dream about warmer weather.

In other news, March 1st marks the eighth anniversary since I found out that I was having my fourth open heart surgery. I can’t believe that it’s been eight years already, it just feels like yesterday. It’s amazing how much time truly flies.

Now, getting back to the post! I love writing wish lists, I swear they’re about 40% of my content on here. I get way too excited for every month to start because typically, I write a post on the first of every month of the stuff I’m wishing for throughout that month. This month’s post is a little longer because it’s also a lot of the stuff I want in my wardrobe for spring!

P.S. you can read February’s post here and January’s here.

I mentioned this shirt in my links + loves earlier this week but it’s so beautiful, I just can’t get over it! I would wear it in white so much throughout the spring and summer. Unfortunately there’s only small, large and XL in white currently.

I’m usually a plain jane, but there’s something about this yellow printed blouse that I love.

I tried this linen shirt on as part of my try-on haul that didn’t work out but I was in love with the look and fit.

Although it is a little pricier, I am absolutely in love with this tiered blouse from Madewell.

I’m not a hoodie person… like at all. I do love this zip-up sweatshirt in lieu of a hoodie, though.

In January’s wish list, I mentioned how much I love Patagonia sweaters. I’m absolutely obsessed with this pullover! I love the purple for spring and beige/oatmeal colour for year round.

I love a good blazer for times when you want to dress up an outfit. Whether it’s with jeans or a cute sundress, something a little nicer than a jean jacket. I love the Going Out blazer from J. Crew. It’s cute, simple and doesn’t have that business pant suit feel.

I love a good pair of Spanx, they hold everything in so flawlessly. I love these Spanx leggings, I want about 20 pairs of them.

This gingham shift dress is perfect to dress up or down.

This white lace dress is so beautiful plus a longer length! It’s the perfect Easter dress.

This eyelet dress is another great dress for Easter.

I tried this floral shift dress on in burgundy and it was gorgeous! Plus it’s under $35!

This striped shift dress is gorgeous! And it’s good for all budgets.

I’m having daydreams over this scalloped edge skirt in moss green and black! The red is super cute, too.

So yeah, I mean maybe it is a little too early to have a bathing suit discussion – however, I’m always on a mission for a one piece that doesn’t look too matronly. Although a little pricey, I am absolutely obsessed with this striped cut out one piece!

How cute are the scalloped details on these Sam Edelman heels? Such a cute touch for spring.

I love The Quinn Sandal from Madewell! I love Madewell’s products, they’re just so classic and these would be perfect for everyday sandals in the spring and summer.

Birkenstock’s Arizona sandals are my absolute favourite, they’re so comfortable – I’ve worn them for years. I especially love the mocha colour.

I love the Nike Roshe Sneakers in grey.
